The GHG Protocol was developed by WRI and WBCSD in the late 1990s. Since then, it develops standards, tools and online training that helps countries and cities track progress towards their climate goals.

The first version of the Corporate Standard, was published in 2001 and is revised ever since. Besides the Corporate Standard, a set of standards were developed so that companies, governments and other entities can measure and report their GHG emissions, such as: GHG Protocol for Cities, Mitigation Goal Standard, Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard, Policy and Action Standard, Product Standard, and the Project Protocol

Today there is a large number of guidance documents and Calculation Tools available, in order to assist the measurement and reporting process.

A series of Online Trainings are provided by WRI in order for professionals to understand and adopt the GHG Accounting standards.
