The GRI Standards assist companies report their contribution to sustainable development, through disclosing their impacts on the economy, environment and people.

The GRI Standards are modular and include:

• Universal standards, which adopt a forward looking approach
• Sector Standards, that for the time being include three published standards addressing industries with the highest impact, i.e. Oil and Gas, Coal, Agriculture – Aquaculture and fishing. A standard for mining is underway. The GRI’s sector program aims to develop 40 standards
• Topic standards that are used in conjunction to the Universal standards to list disclosures relevent to a particular topic.
